Angie Smallwood - Board Member

Hi everyone! I’m Angie and I am proud to represent you as a TTR board member. Unlike most athletes in this sport, I did not play sports when I was younger. In fact, I failed PE in high school! I was a couch potato until I was 39 and decided to train for a Tough Mudder. I then went on to do 6 adventure races after that. I am living proof that it is never too late to become an athlete! I didn’t want to look back some day and have regrets because I didn’t use this capable body to its full potential.

In 2015 I decided I wanted to run a half marathon, but during training I developed a nagging injury that kept me from completing my goal. I decided to hire a coach. During our meeting I told her I want to run the half marathon in 2017, but since I’m paying you, I also want to do an Ironman! So that’s what I did! I went on to do 6 half marathons, multiple long runs over 13 miles, three sprint triathlons, attempted a half Ironman (swim was canceled), three century rides and after 75 weeks of hard work and discipline I completed my IRONMAN!

My favorite part of this club is the people and having a family that supports each other. I absolutely love cheering for you and going to as many races as I can to volunteer and ring my cowbell ;). I want to help people in any way I can to achieve their goals, but even more to help them believe that they can do it! This past year I witnessed several people like myself achieve huge goals because they believed they could. I also believe you get out of it what you put in.

I always call myself a “completer” not a competitor, but I’ve learned that I do like to compete against myself and push myself outside of my comfort zone….because that’s where the magic happens.
